Tips and Advice for Find the Perfect Baby Sitter
If parents of young kids ever want to break out for the evening, and go see a movie or have a resting meal, then they will need baby sitters. It’s all part of being a parent. If you’re lucky, you’ll have family members nearby who will perform the service. Grandparents are prone to offer themselves as baby sitters, however many times you like. Unfortunately, when our children were small, my husband’s and my families were some distance away. Paying for someone to watch the kids was a necessity. Later, we did manage to get into a group of parents who clubbed together and sat for each other on a rota. Until then, we’d to find someone we could trust.
For a number of years, we had a young man who sat for us. This was frowned upon in some quarters, but we had each faith in him. We had got to know him and invited him to the house to spend time with our two kids, in our presence, before we left them alone with him. This was important, because our children were quite shy and we wanted them to get to know him first and visa versa. After the initial shyness on both sides, our kids became very fond of Darren and we didn’t use any other babysitters. We trusted him because he was the eldest of seven children and had a lot of child rearing experience. He was really good with them and enjoyed reading them stories and playing with them. He would have been able to cope, had any emergency occurred.
There are ground rules when it comes to paying someone to watch the children. You must let babysitters know when bed time is, what the kids are allowed to watch on TV, and what they’re not allowed to eat or drink. Make sure babysitters feel at home but not so much, that they’ve the run of the home. Always be back when you say you will be, and leave a telephone number where you can be reached. Make sure that the children know that the babysitter is in charge in your absence.
If you don’t have a circle of friends or neighbors who can help out, there are agencies that supply babysitters. It’s best to get a reference or two from someone else who’s used the service, before you do. As long as you’ve someone who’ll care for your children as much as you do, don’t feel guilty about going out every now and then. You’ve earned a break. Enjoy yourselves!
